KWTX reported from the Associated Press that bananas donated to a Texas prison in the Houston area were carrying more than a good source of potassium.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice said in a Facebook Post, "The drugs were found in two pallets of bananas that were donated because they were already ripe; the donation arrived Friday."

The department reported that the authorities who picked up the boxes of bananas found a white substance that was powdery in the boxes.

U.S. customs representatives were called out to the scene to further investigate, and they found that 540 packages of cocaine were discovered in 45 boxes of the fruit.

Federal officials and U.S. custom officials are still investigating further into this case.
