Travis County Judge Gisela Triana Charged with DWI

A Travis County state district judge has been charged with driving while intoxicated after being pulled over by Austin police Friday night.

Judge Gisela Triana, 48, was stopped for speeding on Barton Springs Road. According to an arrest affidavits, Triana exhibited signs of being inebriated, and officers administered a field sobriety test. Triana failed the test, and officers found an empty hard lemonade bottle in the center console of her Chevrolet Suburban. She refused to submit a breath or blood sample at the scene, but later submitted to a blood test.

Triana told officers that she had two drinks while attending a taping of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" at the Long Center with fellow members of the Austin legal community before having two more at a restaurant later that night.

She was booked into Travis County Jail shortly after 11:00 p.m. and was released eight hours later on a personal bond. In a statement, the civil judge said, “Regardless of the outcome of the pending investigation, I am very disappointed in myself and am sorry for any conduct that has made this legal process necessary."

Triana has been the presiding judge of the 200th Civil District Court since 2005.
