A Killeen man is in the Bell County Jail after police say he shot his girlfriend's daughter's dog, then prevented the woman from calling 911.

48-year-old Earnest Jerome Green was arraigned Friday on a charge of animal cruelty, interfering with an emergency call, failure to identify, and violating probation. His bail was set at $30,000.

Green was arrested Wednesday after police responded to his residence in the 1000 block of Robindale Drive. According to police, Green was inebriated when he got into an argument with his girlfriend about her daughter's Chihuahua. The woman took her daughter and the animal into a bedroom, but Green told her that he would shoot the dog if she didn't get it out. He later entered the bedroom with a gun, lifted a mattress the two people were sitting on, and fired a shot. The bullet struck the dog in the head, killing it.

An arrest affidavit said the woman tried to call 911, but green stopped her. It is unclear how police learned of the incident.
