UPDATE 5/2/17, 10:52 AM: Temple PD spokeswoman Shawana Neely has confirmed that the man who shot himself was 45-year-old David Bailey. Bailey was suspected of fatally shooting a woman outside of Forth Worth's Ridgemar Mall Monday afternoon following a domestic dispute.

Traffic along I-35 in Temple was halted Monday night after a man believed to be a murder suspect shot himself on the highway across from the Birdcreek Shopping Center.

In a news release, Temple Police Spokeswoman Shawana Neely said Temple officers were notified at 9:10 PM Monday that Salado Police, Bell County Sheriff's Deputies, and DPS officers were in pursuit of a vehicle that matched a statewide alert for a murder suspect.

The vehicle was travelling north along I-35 when it was slowed by construction traffic in the 3600 block of I-35, across from Bank of America, Target, etc.

The driver shot himself at the scene, and was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace David Barfield at 11:40 PM.

Temple PD's General Investigations Unit is currently investigating the incident with assistance from the Texas Rangers and DPS.

According to our news partner, KWTX, the car the deceased was driving matched the description of one linked to a murder in Fort Worth.
