A Little of My Childhood Just Died With James Best, Better Known as Roscoe P Coltrane

"The Dukes of Hazzard" was the soundtrack to my childhood.  I remember living in the Philippines, with our three channels, and "Dukes" was on weekly.  I couldn't get enough.

Maybe if I'd grown up in the 21st-century world of DVR I wouldn't have such fond memories.  Maybe I would have watched the show until it was just as foolish as the rest.  Given that I've only seen a handful of episodes in the past 30 years I think it's safe to say the nostalgia is the driving force behind the fond memories.

We lost an integral part of my fond "Dukes" memories in James Best, who has passed away at the age of 88.  Best, better known to my generation as Roscoe P. Coltrane, was the bumbling sheriff and sidekick to the evil-doing Boss Hogg.  His laugh, and his dog, were a fan (and my) favorite.

Sure, Daisy was easy on the eyes and the Duke Boys were the coolest, but I was always rooting for Roscoe in a way.  If capturing the Dukes could somehow get Boss Hogg off his back for even a small moment, it was worth it.  It's just a shame that knucklehead Enos let the Duke Boys escape every time Daisy flashed a little leg.  C'mon, man.  Get a girlfriend, already.  This is borderline stalking.

Anyway, enjoy some classic Roscoe P. Coltrane.
