WASHINGTON (AP) — A former Army soldier who allegedly hopped a White House fence, dashed across the North Lawn and entered the executive mansion was arrested two months earlier in rural Virginia, heavily armed and carrying a map with a circle drawn around the White House.

It was one of two run-ins that Omar J. Gonzalez of Copperas Cove, Texas, had with the law before he was arrested inside the White House.

Federal prosecutors say when Gonzalez was arrested Friday he was armed with a knife. Officials say they later found 800 rounds of ammunition in his vehicle.

The security breach prompted the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to schedule a rare recess hearing next Tuesday. The committee has invited Secret Service Director Julia Pierson to testify.
