A third case of a rabid animal has been confirmed, after testing took place at the Department of Health Services in Austin, Texas.

A homeowner near Gatesville, Texas, came home to a skunk in his backyard, which he shot and killed on March 13.

It has been suspected that the owner’s dog may have been in contact with the skunk, and the pet is under confinement until it has been determined it does not have rabies.

Earlier this month, two other skunks were found with the virus as well, in the 100 block of Pate Drive and a home in the 100 block of Ash Drive.
