DALLAS (AP) — Cathy Frye and Rick McFarland have survived the kind of ordeal they typically cover in their work for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper.

Stranded and lost in Texas' remote Big Bend Ranch State Park, Frye realized she could go on no longer. Her husband, McFarland, set out alone to find help, leaving her behind for two days.

McFarland was able to find his car, drive to a ranger's station and help launch a search-and-rescue operation that found Frye on Sunday. She remained hospitalized two days later, but in good spirits as she recovered from severe dehydration.

Frye and McFarland met at the Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock.

Frye's rescue came to the great relief of colleagues who had mobilized and called officials to try to find her.
