A man who robbed a woman he met on Craigslist, then escaped from police in a high speed chase is behind bars after turning himself in.

Temple police responded to a robbery call in the 2600 block of North 1st St. shortly before 12:30 PM Wednesday. The victim said a man she'd contacted on Craiglist about massage services met her at that location, pointed a handgun at her, and demanded that she exit her car. He then sped away in her vehicle.

Officers on their way to the scene of the crime spotted the victim's car near the 1500 block of S. MLK Dr. a short time later and tried to initiate a stop, but the driver refused to pull over. He lthen ed police on a chase that reached speeds in excess of 80 MPH.

Police decided to end their pursuit as the suspect approached S. 31st due to safety concerns.

Around 12:30 PM, officers found the vehicle unoccupied in the 1400 block of Paseo Del Oro. The victim's property was recovered including a phone with a photo of the suspect. At the same time, a resident in the 1800 block of S. MLK reported finding a handgun believed to have been tossed from the car by the suspect as he fled.

As police were establishing perimeters in the S. 31st St. area, the suspect entered the lobby of the Temple Police Department and asked to speak with a detective. He was taken into custody without incident.

No injuries were reported.
