Be Safe, Not Stupid on Election Day

I found out this weekend  Texas is one of only six states which expressly forbid bringing guns into a polling location during an election.

Doesn't that seem kind of odd to you?  We're not exactly the state known for restricting anything involving guns. Perhaps the right to vote peacefully is akin to church worship in Texas.  It should be everywhere.

Johnny Cash was right: don't take your guns to town son, leave your guns at home. I've quoted that one before, but with the presence of law-enforcement at every polling location, it's important that you do the safe thing.

There are other rules which govern the orderly execution of our voting procedures.  One that every state has is no electioneering inside the polling location. If you think you're gonna walk in adorned with that hat, shirt, button or candidate bumper sticker plastered on your ass, think again. It's not allowed.  And if you're going to be sassy, you're going to be taken out and it isn't going to be pretty.

I can already hear some of you now. These rights are enshrined in the Constitution, how can they say I can and can't do this? What you forget is the Constitution was written by reasonable people for reasonable people, not yahoos.  Trying to influence an election by going into a polling place and campaigning is the kind of intimidation and corruption of the process our founding fathers sought to curtail.

This Tuesday, let's pray for common sense and clear thinking everywhere... especially at the polls.
