A Belton child who was struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding his bicycle Friday evening has passed away.

The Temple Daily Telegram reports that 13-year-old Richard Snyder, a student at South Belton Middle School, was riding with friends along the 2100 block of the south I-35 frontage road around 6:15 PM when he was struck by a vehicle, the driver of which fled the scene.

Synder was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple in critical condition. KWTX-TV reports that Synder passed away early Sunday morning. KWTX also reports that a person of interest has been identified and their vehicle impounded. Police have not released that person's identity.

Friends of Synder's family have started a GoFundMe campaign in his honor.
