The Belton Fire Department is giving away free electric fans to low-income residents in need, but supplies are limited.

The fans will be distributed daily from 8 AM to 7 PM at the fire departments at 420 Sparta Road and 203 South Penelope Street. Distribution fill continue until all the fans are given away.

Paul Romer with the City of Belton said Friday that the goal of the giveaway is to help elderly and disabled residents, as well as those with life-threatening illnesses, stay cool and comfortable during the summer months.

To be eligible to receive a fan, a person must show proof of residency within the Belton city limits. A utility bill such as a water or electric statement will do, as will a current state-issued ID.

The following private businesses and organizations supplied the fans, for which we thank them: Belton Walmart, Belton HEB, TruMH, Belton Rotary Club, and the Belton Professional Firefighters Association.
