Belton football has had an up and down season in Bob Shipley's first year as head coach, but the Tigers pulled off their biggest win of the season in the final week of the regular season to reach the playoffs.

Following the departure of Rodney Southern following the 2013 season, Belton turned to a well-known name in the Lone Star State in hiring Bob Shipley away from the Texas Longhorns' staff.  Shipley's return to high school coaching got off to a great start with a crushing week one win, but the Tigers needed some late season magic to reach the playoffs.

A win in week 10 against a Harker Heights team many had pegged for a postseason run not only knocked the Knights out of the playoffs, but the win propelled the Tigers into the postseason.  The Tigers' reward is a first-round matchup against Garland High School at McLane Stadium in Waco.  The Owls had won four in a row before a 30-point loss against undefeated Rockwall to close out the season.

Garland is a winnable game for Belton, but they'll need Coby Potvin, Shane Stafford and the rest of the offense to take advantage of a defense that's given up 30+ points five times in ten games this season.  Belton hasn't won a playoff game since David Ash was leading the offense, and Coach Shipley would love to take Belton into the 2nd round and a matchup against Skyline or Lake Highlands.
