Belton High School’s Student Parking Spaces Become Masterpieces

On August 27, students of Belton High School gathered in the student parking lot as they withstood the Texas heat to begin making their mark with color and paintbrushes.  As friends and family members offered their support, students transformed the parking lot into a diverse representation of the unique creative ability that defines a Belton Tiger. This year celebrates PTO’s second year sponsoring the event.

‘We started looking at what other school districts were doing to raise money because we were needing to raise money for a one-day event. There were other schools in the area that held paint days. We contacted Rockwall because they were one of them and they told us how they were successful. This is our second year; we had 250 spaces available and we sold 153. We use the money raised for scholarships for PTO members, teacher appreciation lunches, and perfect attention awards every nine weeks for students and their parents,” said PTO President Angela Fisher.

Bailey Fanning’s tiger head drawing was viewed as the most unique by PTO President Fisher.

“I like to draw in my spare time, especially on my arm during school. I started drawing tigers a lot when I moved to Belton last year from Lubbock,” said Fanning.  

“I am painting a sea turtle. When I visited Florida earlier in the summer I bought a sea turtle necklace because the state of Florida is all about saving the sea turtles. I love turtles and saving the environment and now my necklace is a part of me. I wanted to make it official by painting the sea turtle on my parking spot,” said BHS senior Elinor Rowe.

“I really love sunflowers and wanted a sunflower on my space. I think this fundraiser is a really great way for students to get creative and express themselves for their last few years of high school. It is a fun way to spend a Saturday morning,” said BHS senior Savannah Bush.

“My two best friends and I decided to do something that coordinates with each other. I really like the fact that the high school offers this activity. I believe it should really be reserved for just upperclassmen though; having the reserved parking spaces for the upperclassmen is a convenience for the students since those students are involved in dual credit and off-campus activities,” said BHS junior Mikaela Valdez.
