Belton Police Investigating Video of Animal Cruelty at Lake Belton

Police in Belton are working to authenticate a video uploaded to Snapchat this week that appears to show a teenager throwing a cat into Lake Belton.

The video was initially shared on Snapchat, and came to the public's attention when a Twitter user reportedly tagged Belton PD and PETA in a re-post.

After the video attracted so much attention on social media, Belton Police have at least identified the three teens who are involved in the incident. KWTX News 10 reports The case has now been assigned to an investigator with the sheriff's department according to Sheriff's Maj. T.J. Cruz.

Cruz said once the investigation is complete they will make the appropriate referrals to juvenile authorities.

The video doesn't show what happens to the poor kitty after it lands in the water.
