KWTX's Brandon Hamilton reported that if you have received a suspicious phone call recently, authorities are warning you not to fall for any phone scams.

Temple authorities have said there has been a spike in scam related calls as of late. Temple authorities said on Facebook, "If you receive a call from the Social Administration, the Internal Revenue Service or a police agency claiming they have your relative in custody, use diligence when providing your information."

Authorities also added, "It is not common for any of the agencies to accept retail store gift cards as a form of payment."

If you ever feel you are getting a scam call, do not provide any information until you have verified the source.
