KWTX's Brandon Hamilton reported that hundreds of Marines were in Central Texas on Saturday celebrating a milestone for the Corps'.

The Marines were celebrating the 243rd birthday of the United States Marine Corps. The Corps' were founded on November 10, 1775. The ceremony was held in Temple at the American Legion Post 133.

Ed Bandas said, “Every Marine considers this their other birthday. The birth of the Corps is very special to us. This is a chance and opportunity to get together and celebrate our birthday along with our fellow Marines from every generation still alive. We had World War II veterans here today and currently serving active duty Marines."

Guest speaker of the ceremony was Mark Austin Byrd, along with words from the Central Texas Marines Organization. Byrd was a combat helicopter pilot for the Marines in the Vietnam War. Byrd is now a notable sculptor, whose work honors fellow veterans.

The ceremony also included the tradition cake-cutting ceremony and prizes available for those in attendance as well.
