Congressman Timothy Griffin of Arkansas’ 2nd District has drawn harsh criticism after casting blame for a report of shots fired at the U.S. Capitol Thursday on Democrats as the shooting was happening.

Griffin Tweeted “Gun shots outside the Capitol” from a closet shortly after the building was put on lockdown. Just one minute later, he Tweeted “Stop the violent rhetoric President Obama, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.” with the hash tag “Disgusting”.

Plenty of Twitter users were disgusted with Mr. Griffin’s Tweets, and he has since apologized and erased the offensive messages.

What do you think? Was the Congressman’s behavior appropriate given the circumstances?
