A suspect stopped Sunday in Copperas Cove for failing to use a turn signal was arrested after trying to dispose of evidence by eating it.

Sean Irwin Mcelroy was pulled over in the 300 block of Sunset Lane after he failed to signal before making a left turn. When an officer approached Mcelroy’s vehicle, she smelled a strong odor which she identified as marijuana. When she noticed that Mcelroy was having difficulty speaking, she instructed him to open his mouth. Mcelroy complied, and the officer observed chewed marijuana. Mcelroy was instructed to produce the marijuana, but swallowed it.

Mcelroy was arrested on a charge of tampering with physical evidence - a third-degree felony. More marijuana was found on his person. He was arraigned Sunday in Coryell County with bail set at $10,000.
