KWTX reported that a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was sent to a local hospital after being involved in a crash with an 18 wheeler on Sunday night.

Department of Public Safety Sargent Ryan W. Howard said, "The crash occurred just after 11:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near mile marker 361, just north of Abbott."

Howard told KWTX that the semi-trailer began driving on the shoulder where the trooper's patrol unit was, and crashed into the vehicle from behind.

The trooper that was in the vehicle, suffered head injuries from the crash involving the semi-trailer. The trooper was airlifted to Baylor Scott and
White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco, but was talkative to the first reponders while in route to the hospital.

The condition of the trooper has not been revealed to the public, and charges could potnetially be handed down in the crash. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the crash.
