Stephan Lemar Hicks turned himself in on Thursday when he learned a warrant had been issued for his arrest in connection with the accidental shooting of his 2-year-old daughter on May 31.

Hicks is being held in the Killeen City Jail. He is facing misdemeanor charges of making a firearm accessible to a child.

The child sustained serious injury after a .40-caliber pistol was left within reach. Investigators have not determined whether the child shot herself or if her 3-year-old brother shot her. She is at Scott & White's McLane's Children's Hospital, and is expected to recover

Hicks typically left the firearm in a secure place, but did not do so on the day of the accident.
