Tragedy was avoided Monday night with a water rescue.

According to KWTX, emergency crews rescued five people Monday night from the Lampasas River, near Chalk Ridge Falls, at Stillhouse Hollow Lake.

The Bell County Sheriff's Department reported that five people fell off of their inner tubes around 7pm, and had to hang on to some trees until help arrived.

Emergency crews from Belton, Salado, Stillhouse, Bell County and Killeen all responded. Plus, air support was also called in.

All five people are safe and uninjured, according to the Bell County Sheriff's Department. There have been way too many incidents in our local bodies of water. Listen to the signs of river/lake closures. They're for your safety.
