Killeen police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a Fort Hood soldier early Monday morning.

28-year-old Thomas James Reyes was driving a motorcycle south on MLK Boulevard around 1:00 a.m. when a Ford Mustang collided with him from behind, causing both vehicles to enter the northbound lane and crash into a ditch on the eastern side of the roadway.

Rayes was transported to the Carl R Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin. Potvin ordered Rayes' remains undergo an autopsy at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas.

Investigators say alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges are pending.
