A Ft. Hood soldier is dead after he lost control of his vehicle and collided head-on with another car Friday night.

According to a Killeen Police Department press release, the soldier was speeding as he headed west on Watercrest when he lost control of his 2007 Ford Mustang. As he spun out, he entered the eastbound lane and collided with a 2000 Mercedes Benz SUV. The driver's side of the Mustang struck the  front of the Mercedes, pinning the driver inside.

The 21-year-old soldier was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin. Potvin did not order an autopsy.

The soldier's passenger was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition and later moved to Baylor Scott & White in Temple.

The 34-year-old woman in the Mercedes was taken to Metroplex Hospital in Killeen with non-life threatening injuries.

Police have not released the name of the soldier pending notification of his family. They've also withheld the names of the two injured. An investigation of the crash continued Saturday morning.
