Texas schools will be sharing more than $116 million to bolster high-quality pre-kindergarten programs.

According to the The Texas Tribune, 578 school districts and charter schools will be taking a cut of the $116 million dollars for Pre-K programs.

Lawmakers approved the grant during last year's legislative session. This was after Governor Greg Abbot announced that early education was going to be his top legislative priority.

Advocates of Pre-K says the grants don't go far enough. Awards range from $3,600 for smaller schools to the biggest piece of pie of $9.2 million for Houston schools. Payments will be made in two installments. One now, another in the fall.

All this is nice of course, but are we throwing away even more money on a flawed education system?
