Thinking about going to the coast? You might want to take along some sunscreen and check for bacteria.

I'm not kidding and neither is the Texas General Land Office, which has a spiffy web-based app to show you which beaches are clean and which are more problematic.

The app is called Texasbeachwatch.com and it's online now.  With all the runoff from the recent flooding as well as seasonal runoff which occurs no matter how much rain we get, Texas officials say we can expect a high bacteria count in some areas. Bacteria counts are greater than 104 cfu/100 ml  at Sylvan Beach Park in Harris County, hence the red drop on the map.

You don't want to get eaten up by aggressive bacteria   Check out each watch page and find out if your beach is safe .
