Jury Selection Set In Fort Hood Suspect’s Case

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) — Jury selection is set to start Tuesday in the long-awaited murder trial of the Army psychiatrist charged with opening fire in a Fort Hood building nearly four years ago.

Some soldiers who survived the Nov. 5, 2009, rampage on the Texas Army post say waiting to testify in Maj. Nidal Hasan's court-martial has caused them to miss family reunions, vacations and other events. They're tired of the unexpected legal snags and numerous delays.

Hasan faces execution or life without parole if convicted in the worst mass shooting on a U.S. military installation that left 13 dead and nearly three dozen wounded.

Jury selection is expected to last a month, with testimony starting in August. The jury pool of nearly 150 officers will come from Army posts nationwide, including Fort Hood.
