42-year-old Cecil Howell of Killeen faces felony charges after police say he attacked a woman and her child with a hammer.

Howell was arrested Tuesday after Killeen police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 400 block of West Avenue C just after 1:40 a.m. and found the woman and her 9-year-old son both bleeding from their heads.

The woman told police Howell struck her in the face with the hammer, then attacked her son when he tried to come to her aid. The two were transported to an area hospital.

Howell was found a short time later walking in the 100 block of North College Avenue. Police observed fresh blood and a scratch on one of the man’s fingers and made the arrest.

Howell was arraigned Thursday on a third-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a third-degree felony charge of injury to a child. He is currently being held in the Bell County Jail on $400,000 bond.
