A Killeen man who shot and killed another man during a confrontation Friday has been charged with manslaughter.

40-year-old John Hyon Dust told police he accidently shot 41-year-old Danny Mac Carruthers in the face after the man refused to leave his property at 690 Turkey Trot Road around 2 PM Friday. Carruthers was reportedly sitting in a Buick LeSabre parked in Dust’s driveway when Dust exited his home and began arguing with Carruthers. When Curruthers refused to leave, Dust fired a warning shot, after which he claims the gun fired accidently.

After realizing that Carruthers was injured, Dust called 9-1-1. Carruthers was transported to Scott and White Hospital in Temple, where he later died. According to Dust’s statement to police, Carruthers never left his vehicle during the confrontation.

Dust is currently being held in the Bell County Jail on $1 million bond.
