The Killeen Fire Marshal's Office is investigating an early morning fire that led to the discovery of a young man's body.

In a press release issued Tuesday morning, Fire Marshal James Chism said the Killeen Fire Department was dispatched to Century Plaza Apartment Homes, 3300 E Rancier, at 5:13 AM.

The first crew to arrive saw smoke through the windows of a second-story apartment. When they entered the home, they found a man lying unresponsive. He was transported to Seaton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The fire, which appeared to have started in the kitchen, was extinguished.

Chism said the victim's identity is being withheld until his family is notified of his passing.

According to KWTX, the victim was a 27-year-old man.
