Killeen police were involved in a seven hour standoff Wednesday after a suspect led them on a chase, then barricaded himself in a house.

Officers attempted to stop a stolen Chevy Silverado around 10:50 am. The driver, 27-year-old Travis Lee Leighton, refused to stop and led officers on a short pursuit. When he finally stopped, Leighton jumped from the truck and ran into a house at 1011 Cedar Dr.

The department's Tactical Response Unit was deployed to the house at 11:20 am. Officers attempted to negotiate with Leighton for several hours, but received no response. Eventually, chemical munitions were deployed, but they failed to drive the suspect from the home.

Officers later determined that Leighton was hiding under the home. He began negotiating with officers around 5:30 pm. When Leighton still refused to surrender, more chemical munitions were deployed. Leighton gave himself up to police without incident at 6:31 pm.

Leighton was wanted by police for numerous outstanding warrants, including a felony warrant for parole violation stemming from a drug related conviction.

A 28-year-old woman was also arrested at the scene and charged with hindering apprehension. Her name has been withheld pending the return of formal charges by the Bell County District Attorney's Office.
