Police arrested Sharon Genece Powell after she forged checks belonging to an elderly woman.

The woman allowed Powell to live in her home for about a month  before asking her to leave because she suspected that Powell was stealing from her. A home health care worker contacted the police.

A bank representative contacted the woman, informing her that one of her checks was made out to Powell and had been cashed. Another bank showed eight more checks were made out to Powell. The woman claims that she did not sign the checks or give Powell permission to do so. Signatures on the checks did not match a signature given by the woman.

Powell's sister claims that she found the woman's checkbook in Powell's possession.

Powell was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of forgery against an elderly individual, with bond set at $20,000.
