Water levels kept many Central Texans from enjoying area lakes this summer, but the crowds returned for one more weekend even though many of the area parks remain closed.

Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow Lake stayed off limits for much of the summer due to very high water levels after heavy spring rains in Bell County. According to park workers, every park that directly puts you on the Lake Belton stayed closed until recently.

Dana Peak Park was just about the only option for getting onto Stillhouse Hollow. Many of the area parks are still going through the clean-up process. It's been a tough summer for businesses that thrive off of the activities offered by local area lakes.

The business community near Lake Waco is saying the same thing. When the Lakes are closed most of the summer, and during major holidays like the 4th of July, it's hard to keep these small businesses running.
