KWTX reported that a longtime educator in the Central Texas area passed away on Thursday.

The educator that passed away was the former Woodway Elementary Principal Mike Cooper. His wife Cheryl is the present day Midway Middle School Librarian in the district.

According to a post on Midway ISD's Facebook page, Cooper died on Thursday at the age of 63.

Mr. Cooper started his career at Midway Middle School where he started his career as an elementary P.E. teacher, a middle school girls' coach, an assistant principal, and a principal.

After being the principal at Midway Middle School, Cooper went to Woodway Elementary School, where he was the principal for 20 years before retiring in the year of 2011.

The Cooper family has designated the Midway Education Foundation as a beneficiary for memorial gifts in the honor of Mike Cooper.

Visitation for Mike Cooper is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at Grace Gardens in Waco, Texas. The memorial service will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Crestview Church of Christ in Waco.
