Killeen Police Chief Dennis Baldwin presented crime data from the first six months of 2013 to the Killeen City Council Tuesday night.

According to the data, there has been a decrease in five of the seven types of major crime tracked by the police department.

Murder, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and larceny have shown decreases when compared to the same period in 2012. Baldwin says the decrease is due to a combination of the Killeen police and an increased use of technology.

The same data indicates an increase in the number of vehicle thefts, and consistent numbers of rapes.

The presentation also included data on red-light traffic violations, which appear to be showing a downward trend. While Baldwin concedes that red-light cameras are a source of revenue, he believes the system is fulfilling its primary goal of keeping drivers safe.
