A man who was shot and killed Sunday morning in Killeen has been determined to be the brother of the gunman.

32-year-old Terry Lee Moon Jr. of Killeen was shot while attempting to enter a home in the 2300 block of Zephyr Road. According to a preliminary investigation, Moon lived at the home and had told his brother he would not be home that night. When he arrived home unexpectedly, he attempted to enter through the front door. When he found that a renter's deadbolt with no key prevented access, he decided to enter through the window.

Police received a 911 call at 2:57 a.m. reporting a burglary. When they arrived at the scene, they found Moon in the backyard of the home with a gunshot wound. His brother told investigators that he believed Moon to be a burglar.

Moon was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. Police have not released the name of the shooter and it is unclear if he knew who Moon was when he fired.

The shooter was taken into custody Sunday but released later in the day after the case was reviewed by the Bell County DA's office. He has not been charged with crime.
