Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon And Texas Gov. Rick Perry Spar Over Tax Cut

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is defending his veto of an income tax cut as Texas Gov. Rick Perry comes to Missouri to tout low taxes.

Nixon is announcing a business expansion Thursday by an auto parts maker in Troy. He also plans a news conference in the St. Louis suburb of Richmond Heights to highlight how the tax cut could hurt funding for education.

Perry, meanwhile, is speaking at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon in St. Louis. He'll also attend a Chesterfield event hosted by a coalition urging Missouri's Republican-led Legislature to override the Democratic governor's veto of the tax cut. Perry has been running ads in Missouri encouraging businesses to relocate to Texas.

Missouri lawmakers are to convene Sept. 11 to decide whether to override Nixon's vetoes.
