Some citizens in Temple were without natural gas service Thursday after a pipeline was damaged on 31st Street.

In a media release, Thomas Pechal with Temple Fire & Rescue said contractors excavating on South 31st between West Avenue T and Scott Boulevard damaged a natural gas line shortly before 9 AM.

Atmos Energy crews were quickly called to the scene, and were working to repair the line. However, it was unclear how long repairs would take, leaving customers in the area without service.

The interruption covers locations on Scott Blvd. and HK Dodgen Loop.

Traffic was also temporarily detoured following the leak, but streets were open at the time of this article's publication.
