New Bill Could Help Reimburse Texas Teachers for School Supplies

A proposed bill is being considered by the Texas House of Representatives may help reimburse Texas school teachers for school supplies.

KXAN reports that House Bill 54 would give back up to $600 dollars to teachers who had to provide supplies to students out of their own pocket.

The bill was authored by Rep Shawn Thierry, D-Houston, and would apply to those who teach sixth grade and under. Thierry told KXAN that it’s the elementary school teachers who end up with the most out of pocket costs.

If the bill passes, it would be in effect for the upcoming school year. A PDF of House Bill 54 can be read here.
