One person is dead after a house fire in Belton that was so intense that firefighters had to wait for over an hour before entering the home to search for occupants.

Belton Police say firefighters responded to the 2200 block of the West Highway 190 service road at 4:09 AM Tuesday. Whey they arrived, a home was fully engulfed in flames.

KWTX reports that fire crews had to wait over an hour to enter the home. When they finally able to enter, they found a body so badly burned that they were unable to identify the remains as male or female. (Though neighbors told authorities a man lived in the home.)

According to Belton PD, the body was found in the home's bathroom. The fire remained under investigation late Tuesday morning.
