DETROIT (AP) — Police say a 5-year-old girl who was taken from a Detroit school by a parent who didn't have legal custody has been found safe in Texas.

Police say the girl and her 37-year-old mother were found Thursday night in Dickens, Texas, during a traffic stop. The mother was detained without incident.

The girl is being cared for by child protective services workers until family can travel to Texas to pick her up. She's reported in good health.

The girl was missing since being picked up from school earlier this week in Detroit. Police at the time said it was believed the mother was heading out of state.
