Raccoon Responsible for Controlled Burns in Belton Getting Out of Hand
Last week the city of Belton regulated a handful of controlled burns to rid the region of hazardous brush. One of our correspondents went out and took some great photos of the blaze from Wednesday, just on the outskirts of Belton of Highway 190.
It appeared some wildlife wanted to help.
The controlled burn got a bit out of hand on Friday and according to the fire crews, it was a raccoons fault. The raccoon had been digging around some embers before it caught fire itself. It then ran into another pile of brush, which ignited a new fire.
The fire ultimately spread to the backyard of a nearby home , but fire officials were able to quickly maintain and extinguish it.
No other details were made available, including the condition of the raccoon.
