Chicken lovers between Copperas Cove and Temple may have felt left out when Raising Cane's opened restaurants in those two towns in recent years, but all that will change in December.

Yesterday we learned that the chicken finger giant has broken ground on a new location at 335 Knight's Way in Harker Heights.

“We’re excited to commence construction in Harker Heights and can’t wait to give Caniacs in the area a Raising Cane’s to call their own,” said Area Director Mark Strouse. “We have found the perfect location, so our next step will be to assemble the perfect crew. Along with sharing our ONE LOVE with everyone in the area, our team will be dedicated to becoming an integral part of Harker Heights through active community involvement.”

Part of that community involvement is the hiring of around 70 crew members in the weeks ahead.

The Harker Heights location will be the 142nd in Texas and the 421st nationwide.

I was initially skeptical about Raising Cane's when they first came to Temple. What kind of chicken strip place doesn't have gravy?! But the Cane's sauce is actually pretty good, and the chicken itself is too. The buttery toast makes a nice side, and they cook the crinkle fries just right. I'm glad I gave them a chance. (I've never been a fan of coleslaw, but they've never told me "no" when I've asked for extra toast instead.)

You can see their menu on the Raising Cane's website.
