Investigators say an I-35 overpass that collapsed last week in Salado had been hit twice before Thursday’s accident.

TxDot spokesman Ken Roberts told our news partner KWTX that that a trucker hauling cars scraped the top of one of the vehicles on Wednesday, March 18. On Thursday, March 19, a crane being hauled by another truck made contact with the bridge as well.

Roberts said neither collision caused structural damage to the overpass.

Last Thursday, a truck lacking a permit to pass beneath the bridge scraped and knocked over two beams which collapsed onto the highway, killing 32-year-old Clark Davis of Arlington and sending three others to the hospital.
