The Salado Village Voice reported Wednesday that signs of a mountain lion kill were recently discovered in the village's downtown area.

First Baptist Church facilities supervisor Richard Pereira told the Village Voice's Tim Fleischer he discovered the signs upon arriving at work on the morning of February 16. Pereira reportedly found entrails, bloody bones, and a severed head belonging to a deer. Buzzards had already set upon the offal, and Pereira told Fleischer there were clear signs of the rest of the animal having been dragged away.

“I’ve been an avid outdoorsman all my life,” Pereira said. “From what was left behind, this was evidence of a mountain lion’s kill.”

Fleisher's article included several tips for ensuring your safety and the safety of your family, including installing outdoor lighting, keeping roaming pets under control, and minimizing vegetation where a mountain lion could hide.
