A Troy ISD school bus collided with an 18-wheeler Thursday night, injuring nearly a dozen people.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Main Street and the southbound I-35 access road in Troy shortly before 9 p.m. The bus was carrying several Troy Middle School football players and two coaches. At least 11 of the approximately 35 people onboard were taken to Scott and White Hospital in Temple with minor injuries. A makeshift triage center was set up at Troy’s First Baptist Church to assist in inspecting passengers for injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The bus was returning from a gamein Salado.

Troy police continued to investigate the cause of the accident and said they’d be releasing more information Friday morning.

This is the second collision of a school bus and large truck along I-35 in the past month. On September 16, a Bruceville-Eddy school bus was involved in a head-on collision with a large work truck exiting a construction site. The driver was trapped and an aide thrown from the vehicle, and several children were injured.
