Suspect Hides From Killeen Police After Pawn Shop Reports Him
Killeen police say a man suspected of selling stolen goods to area pawn shops hid from them after a shop employee reported him Sunday afternoon.
KWTX reports that Killeen police warned local pawn shops about 30-year-old Dakota Champion of Copperas Cove, who they suspect of pawning stolen stuff. Champion was reportedly pawning items at a shop on Fort Hood Street around 3 PM Sunday when an employee recognized him and notified police.
Officers arrived as Champion was testing a lawn mower outside of the store. Champion fled on foot in the direction of Old FM 440, and was later seen jumping a fence into Fort Hood’s Venable Village. He was able to hide out for about 30 minutes before officers and a K-9 unit found and arrested him.
Jail records indicate he was booked into the Bell County Jail at 2:29 PM Monday and charged with Burglary of a Habitation and Evading Arrest. His bond was set at $50,00, and he remained in the Bell County Jail Tuesday morning.
