Weekend at the Movies

Is this the first major football movie of the year? Even if it isn’t, it’s the first major football movie this year to star Kevin Costner, and that has to count for something, right? It’s also the first major football movie of the year to involve almost no actual football played on screen.

Who’s strong and brave, here to save the American Way? Who vows to fight for what’s right, night and day? Who’ll rise or fall, give his all for America? The Star-Spangled Man with a Plan, that’s who, and this weekend he was back in theaters. Courteous and Savage went to see him in action.

Darren Aronofsky, auteur filmmaker of such unnerving fare as Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, and Black Swan, recently turned his attention to the familiar Biblical story of Noah. The result, aptly titled Noah, opens in theaters this weekend.
