This weekend would have been Taliq Davis' 12th birthday, and his family is inviting the community to join them in honoring his life and legacy with a special balloon release this Saturday at Lions Club Park in Killeen at 7:00 PM.

Taliq lost his battle with a rare form of cancer called DIPG: Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. A brain tumor was found in a part of the brain stem called the pons, which controls essential bodily functions such as heartbeat, breathing, swallowing, eye movement, eyesight, and balance.

His story went viral 2 years ago after his family's appeal for cards and letters to cheer him up garnered thousands of letters, cards, and well wishes from the Central Texas community and around the world. He also met his hero -  Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors.

The Davis family will be hosting a balloon release Saturday. I spoke to Tanisha Davis, Taliq's mom, about the event, as well as plans to launch the "Taliq Tackles DIPG" Foundation to help other families who are dealing with this disease.
