Temple Fire & Rescue has responded to over 350 fires since January 1, 24 of which have been determined to be of a suspicious nature.

Investigators believe more than one group of individuals are responsible for the fires.

The astonishing numbers were announced by TF&R Spokesman Thomas Pechal Tuesday afternoon. Of the 24 fires believed to have been set intentionally, 11 cases have been closed with an arrest or are pending with the Bell County District Attorney's Office. 13 cases remained under investigation.

"These fires are divided into 27 categories including building, grass, and vehicle to name a few," Pechal said.

"Some of the homes were occupied, some were vacant, and some were being remodeled. The fires are located throughout the city. There is no one specific area of town. Investigators believe more than one group of individuals are responsible for the fires."

Pechal said the national average for intentionally set fires in homes is 5%, and that Temple is currently at 16%.

The Temple Fire Marshal's Office is currently offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone committing arson within Temple city limits. If you believe you have such information, you're urged to contact them at (254) 298-5955 or tfmo@templetx.gov.
